September 2014 Newsletter

RJ WebBuilder 2.0 Newsletter

Dear Webmasters:

Happy New Year! Just a reminder, we are closed for Rosh Hashanah (Sept. 24 @ 1 PM, 25 and 26), Yom Kippur (Oct 3 @ 1 PM), Sukkot (Oct 8 @ 3 PM - Oct 9) and Simchat Torah (Oct 15 @3 PM - Oct 16). All times are CST.

As many of you know, come November, the component GCalendar will no longer work. We are currently in the midst of transitioning all sites which are using GCalendar to the new DPCalendar software. Thus far, I have updated about a dozen sites or so, and two have reported issues. We are working on fixing these issues before proceeding. If you are currently using GCalendar or plan to, please notify me as this will help speed up the process. If you have already notified me, you do not need to do so again.

Please help me congratulate those congregations who have gone live recently.

Did You Know?

You Have a Variety of Third-Party Options for Processing Payments on Your Site
The URJ-issued template offers joom donation, an extension that allows you to create online payment processing forms, whether it's for membership dues, event registration or a general campaign. But if joom donation isn't exactly what you're looking for, there are some third-party options that work with the joomla software.

  1. JBuilder - The creators of Payquiq have developed a payment system and events registration module integrated into Joomla that allows congregations to collect dues, handle event RSVPs and process donations, school tuition and other payments. Several other RJ Web Builder 2.0 sites are using the system (see some live at,, More info »
  2. Paypal - Paypal allows payments and money transfers to be made online. While paypal can be used along with joom donation, you can skip the joomla component and just embed a paypal link directly on your site. More info »
  3. Wufoo - Wufoo is a web application that helps you build easy-to-use online forms that can be embedded on your site. The URJ uses wufoo for many of our event registration and survey needs. More info »

New Online Collaboration Tool Available to URJ Congregations
If you are looking for a place for your members, board officers, staff, school parents, sisterhood or any other groups to share documents, have conversations or make announcements, the URJ is offering all congregations private, dedicated, unlimited sized groups on Yammer. You have all been invited to the URJ's Yammer network called, The Tent, where discussions about congregational life and resources from the URJ are available. Now we are extending the functionality to your congregation at no charge.  If you are interested in starting a private Yammer group for your congregation, please contact Larry Glickman.

Staying in Touch

We are challenged in reaching current webmasters due to high turnover and changes in email addresses. If you are receiving this email, you are the person who was reported to the URJ to be handling your congregation's website. If there are additional people who need to be on this list or if you need to get off this list, please send corrected information to
