June 2014 Newsletter

RJ WebBuilder 2.0 Newsletter

Dear Webmasters:

Over the past three weeks, I have been updating the Joomla and RSFirewall! software on your sites. If you notice in the main admin control panel of your site that it says both Joomla! and RSFirewall! are running the latest version (RSFirewall! 56 and Joomla! 2.5.20), then your site has received the updates. Sites which are still in development will be updated when they go live.

As some of you have heard, come November, the component GCalendar will no longer work. Google is shutting down their API (application programming interface) which is used in GCalendar. But the developers of GCalendar have created a new plugin called DPCalendar, which should be easier than the existing product. We are currently testing out the new plugin before officially issuing this as the solution. We expect to have more information for you in the coming months. If you are currently using JEvents, then this won't impact your site.

Please note that I will be out of town from June 11-20. While a member of our staff will be checking the help site tickets and the web@urj.org mail box, if you are requesting to take your site live, that will be done once I return. We do apologize for the inconvenience, but if you are hoping to get your site live by the June 30 deadline, we will still make it.

Please help me congratulate those congregations who have gone live recently.

Kol Hakavod to the new sites!

Did You Know?

You Can Help Promote Your Region's URJ Summer Camp
Summer is here, and many of your congregation's children may be attending a URJ summer camp. Help spread the word by posting information on your congregation's website. Create a module, add a picture and insert a link to your region's camp (find your region's camp here). Or link to a camp's social media presence (find the links here).

How to Add the URJ Blog or other RSS Feeds to Your Site
There is an easy way to add information to your site that automatically updates. Add the ReformJudaism.org blog (as a whole or divided into categories), a news website or any RSS feed. For additional feeds the Union offers and how to create a PGT RSS Scroller module, review this tutorial.

Staying in Touch

We are challenged in reaching current webmasters due to high turnover and changes in email addresses. If you are receiving this email, you are the person who was reported to the URJ to be handling your congregation's website. If there are additional people who need to be on this list or if you need to get off this list, please send corrected information to datamgmt@urj.org.
