Button Text Guidelines

A text button should say something specific to what its linking to. It should be concise, clear, and actionable, ideally starting with a verb and avoiding generic phrases like "click here."

  • Be specific: Instead of generic text, use a descriptive title or a summary of what the user will find.
    • Good examples: "Read Our Report," "Learn More About The Project," "View the Full Interview".
    • Less effective examples: "Click Here," "More Information".
  • Start with a verb: Begin the button text with a clear action word like "Read," "Download," "Learn," "View," or "Go".
  • Keep it short: Aim for a maximum of 1 to 3 words. The goal is to reduce friction and guide the user quickly.
  • Consider context: If space is very limited, use a generic term like "Read More," but make sure the article's title or a summary is clearly visible nearby.
  • Match user intent: Think about what the user is trying to do. If they want to read an article, the button text should reflect that directly.
