Issue: jos_session table corrupted - prevents any connection to website
Fix: submit a help desk ticket and mark as urgent. URJ must manually fix this. URJ support claims that v2.5 is causing the issue but we've been using 2.5 for years now without this problem. This only cropped up when 3.x. upgrade began. 3.x is causing the issue but it's also apparently fixing it.

YouTube videos missing

After the upgrade, YouTube videos were missing. Adding the full URL link to the video fixed it.

Although the CSS is generated properly, images are not aligned properly when rendered.

Zoo Rabbi's Blog was not showing anymore (blank page with just title and no template)
Fix: submitted a help desk ticket and the blog was restored after URJ support found an issue with the editor in the front page of the Zoo blog. The custom homepage is still not resolved though. Still working on it.

Serge I can add an answer to this thread but what you are describing in the new thread you opened "Upgrade issue thread, closed?" is happening to me there, as it is asking me to sign in to add an answer, although I am obviously signed in, and the thread shows I am not signed in...

So far, Newsletter PDF display. Custom background is not showing, I can't reset the site to the Dor v'Dor template.

Looked a bit more on my Newsleter PDF display issue, looks like I lost 150 pixels of width with the upgrade

I'm using the category blog in two places. The "more" text always appeared on the right; but now it appears on the right in one blog and immediately after the teaser text in the other.

The site will not display in IE 11. Joomla reports that it is an unsupported browser.

If you turn off the IE 6 redirect, the site will display; but the menu is missing.

Jerry, are you sure the site is actually using the Dor v'Dor template? I still can't set mine to it, it is currently using the default, v1.1 reflex template.

You are absolutely right, Serge. The Dor V'Dor template is no longer in use, and I presume it was incompatible with the Joomla update.

I keep typing it out of habit.

I'm not sure what distinguishes one template from another, at this point, since I can't see what other sites are using.

Seeing as we were originally 'sold' the idea of highly customized templates to fit the synagogue environment, I would have thought that making sure the bloody templates worked on the new version would have been a priority before moving sites over.

A template not working is pretty serious since the layout and functions within a site are dependent on all the CSS in them. .
It's not obvious but, if you look at the page source for a site (right after the </title>), you'll find the real name of the template. I am using Kol Ysrael and it's real name is rt_panacea_j16: <link href="/templates/rt_panacea_j16/favicon.ico". If you then go into template manager, you can find the alias and real name. Don't forget that there was a master CSS named beez that all rocket-theme templates use. Not sure if that's still there with the upgrade though.

I use Dor v'Dor. When I go to template manager, I always had 2 sets. rt_reflex and a series of rt_reflex_j16 - dor vdor. The latter had a lot more options in them. They are still there but I get a 500 error if I set my pages to them.

Heard from Jared on the templates. According to him, they were upgraded and the old ones are not compatible with J3. 2 tings come to mind. The new ones do not have the same functionality as the old ones. I have to get him to reset my custom background, for one. And if the old templates are not compatible, they should be removed.

I also noticed that my page that had a collection of our video is now defaulting to a generic YouTube video. Oops, that needs to be changed. No warning, no testing.

To my view, this whole process was amateurish.

One more. Module Manager, Menu Assignment. When you select only on the pages selected, all pages are selected. The link 'none', to deselect all pages does not work. Every menu has to be deselected one by one.

My site is using the panacea template. Unbeknownst to me, it is a fixed template and not responsive for mobile devices.
Here is a link to find your template and whether it's supported in 3.x and whether it's fixed or "responsive". This might help from going down blind alleys.

What I see is that the J3 compatible version of my template is of a lower version of the original template. My template is reflex. The one that is currently in use shows v1.1. The one that I was using, titled dor vdor is v1.6.2. There are a number of features, mostly around style that have disappeared.

There's a Lot of overhead in processing templates. The tech requirements for reflex show a number of additional s/w components needed to execute properly. It may be any one of those that are causing your issues.
URJ will ask my permission before they upgrade my site. I'll be validating that those extra pieces needed are at the correct versions beforehand.

Bottom line is that we lost features. Other things are either not working, or not working as expected. I learned about the YouTube thing because someone complained. I would have wanted to test first. Failing that, a list of things to change would have been nice. One of committee chair is complaining they can't upload documents from the front end. I have not even had the time to investigate that yet. I get the feeling I'll be chasing bugs for a while. Not quite sure URJ realizes that none of us do this full time.

Resolved:

On a mutli-page document, the page index used to appear at the right of the page; now it appears at the top.

I don't know if the guys made an across the board change, or just tweaked my site.

Osefileman issue: Related to upgrade of php to v5.3
I use a small, custom php script to display a funding thermometer. I downloaded it using osefileman (to tweak it a bit) and the last 10-15 lines of code were missing (they do appear in the editor though). A number of "ereg() is deprecated" warnings appear at the top of the downloaded file. A help-desk ticket was submitted.

I am using the Dor V'Dor template. With the upgrade, my homepage slide show has disappeared. Before I research how to get this back (I haven't upgraded it since we first went to V2 and I really don't remember the process I went through to create it), has anyone else run into this and do you have suggestions on how to fix?

I think the slideshow is generated by widgetkit. You'll need to create a help-desk ticket for the problem. But, please let us know about the resolution.

If you choose one of the XHTML layouts for an RSForm Pro form, the form is not displayed properly.

Mike, you've made a valiant effort to paper over the many shortcomings of this "community" software, but this "Question" is rapidly becoming too long and scattered to be useful. There are just too many different threads that are mixed willy-nilly. The problem is compounded by the inability to edit an "answer", so if you want to report that an issue has been resolved then you have to add a new answer way down at the bottom.

I think we've all been pretty patient, but nothing will change as long as URJ relies on ZenDesk for information sharing.

I'm still going to follow this, but I'm going to report my problems as tickets. That's the only real way to get them resolved, anyways. I, myself, have been finding several issues a week. It's really sad that we have to reinvent the wheel (four times for each car, it seems); but that's the way it goes. <shrug>

I completely agree that this community s/w leaves much to be desired and isn't really useful. But, with so many issues occurring with the upgrades, their priority needs to be focused on that.
I will push for a return to the old version. At least one could find useful and pertinent information there.

The old version was a Joomla based BBS system, if I remember correctly. It was barely functional, and for all I know it was discontinued.

My offer to set up a "real" BBS, either under the auspices of URJ or otherwise, still stands.

I've not been back here since there was little activity. My site was just upgraded and I encountered a few quirks...

Issues:
- panacea template was activated so now I have 2 executing. Am afraid to disable j16 since that is what the site was built upon.
- fusion split menus stopped working. URJ fixed this - not sure how.
- links on home page slideshow (widgetkit) stopped working and needed to be refreshed
- user registration was turned on even though I had it disabled prior to the upgrade.

Templates are being modified without warning. I have lost all footer, header and sidebar module positions.
Does anyone want to join me in speaking to URJ management about the practice of making changes to production without consultation?
